No junk calendars

How we pick

The #1 complaint about advent calendars is cheap filler behind the doors. So that's what we screen out first.

Our rules

  1. We read the reviews first. We check independent reviews and buyer reviews. If reviewers keep saying "filler," "junk," "cheap" or "broke," the calendar is out.
  2. Real products behind the doors. We favor calendars that name their contents or brands, like real coins, real-brand lures and full-size jerky bags. Calendars that are mostly stickers, coupons or empty doors are out.
  3. Both sides, honestly. Every pick shows why it made the list and the main downside reviewers mention.
  4. Real links, real prices, dated. Every link goes to the retailer's own product page. Each price is what that page listed on the date we checked. Prices change, so always check the live price.
  5. No sold-out teasers. If a calendar is sold out when we check, it comes off the list until it's back.
  6. Money never buys a spot. We may earn a commission when you buy, but that never decides what we list. See our affiliate disclosure.
  7. Honest gaps. If nothing in a category meets the bar (Civil War relics and stamps right now), we say so instead of listing junk.

Calendars we skipped this season, and why

These come from published reviews and product listings we checked on Oct 18, 2026. They may suit some buyers, but they didn't pass our no-filler bar.

  • Generic "24 fishing lures" calendars (various sellers): No lure brand is named anywhere in the listing. This is the cheap filler anglers complain about.
  • Ulta Beauty 25 Days of Beauty 2026: Reviewers point to "wellness filler: gummies, heat patches, a multivitamin" alongside the good brands.
  • 12 Days of CRAFTSMAN 2026: The real tools are good, but reviewers call the bottle opener and keychain doors filler.
  • Hot Wheels 2026 Advent Calendar: 14 of the 24 doors are accessories, not cars, and the cars aren't named in advance.
  • Funko Bitty Pop! Pokémon 2026: 14 of the 24 doors are cases and display parts, not figures.
  • Mattel Minecraft 2026: 15 of the 23 surprises are accessories, and five more are stickers.
  • Jelly Belly / Williams Sonoma Harry Potter 2026: About 8 to 9 g of candy per door. That's a very small handful.
  • Sephora Favorites 25 Days, Man Crates Hot Sauce, LEGO City & LEGO Marvel 2026: These look good but were sold out or unavailable on Oct 18, 2026. We don't list what you can't buy.
